Artist, researcher, writer, and antiquarian bookstore owner.  He has an ambition to create transitions in urban life by disseminating the appeal of Japan's local environmental culture. While studying landscape conservation in mountain villages as a doctoral student at Kyoto University's Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, he joined PONDALIZE 2022 because of the potential of art to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge, traditional knowledge, and modern life. He has created a series of short stories "Hiki-Hills Song Line", which is based on the oral culture of the Australian aborigines and interweaves people and creatures, and is continuing with 2023.​​

senses. With her experience in supporting the promotion of corporate sustainability, she is committed to leaving no one behind, from soil microorganisms to artificial intelligence, to wrap the world in love.

Mojca Zupančič（鍵盤、声）とTisa World（声、オブジェクト、フルート）はスロベニアを拠点に活動するアーティストデュオです。彼らの音楽は、エレクトロニック・アンビエント、即興音楽、キャバレー、詩など幅広いジャンルを融合。演劇的で生命力あふれる演奏が特徴です。2023年には初アルバムを制作中で、自然や日常の音、民俗伝統を探求。秋には埼玉県比企郡にあるCreativePowerGarage101に滞在し、里山や沼地をテーマに音楽を創造します。ワークショップを開催し、地域のパフォーマーとも共演予定です。文化や伝統を音で表現するその作品は、人々を深く魅了します。

ウルグアイ、モンテビデオ生まれ。様々な国での生活を経て、現在はオーストラリア・ニューサウスウェールズ州ノーザンリバーズ地方を拠点に活動。サザンクロス大学でビジュアルアートの学士号（優等）を取得し、現在TAFEでセラミックのディプロマを修了中。彼女の作品はコンセプチュアルでミニマリスト、実験的であり、没入型のインスタレーションが中心です。廃棄物や拾得物を利用した創作、白磁を用いたミニマルな陶芸が特徴。ダンスや演劇の背景を持ち、ソマティック・エデュケーションを活用したギャラリーでの展示も評価されています。これまでNSW地域で幅広く展示し、アイスランドでも2度の個展を開催しました。

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, she now resides in Northern Rivers, NSW, Australia. With a background in dance, theater, and visual arts, her minimalist and conceptual work explores multimedia installations and ceramics using recycled materials. She has exhibited widely in NSW and held two solo exhibitions in Iceland.

本田素子は日本出身のピアニスト、作曲家、サウンドアーティストで、現代音楽、即興、ジャズ、電子音楽を融合させた独創的な作曲技法で国際的に評価されています。「キーボードの錬金術師」（LAタイムズ）と称される彼女の演奏は、拡張奏法を用いた表現力豊かな即興演奏が特徴です。著名な音楽家たちとの共演や録音を行い、美術館でのパフォーマンスやアートレジデンシー、大学での講義活動など、多方面で活躍しています。

 本田素子（ピアニスト、作曲家、サウンドアーティスト）とロッコ・ソマッジ（NPO経営者、コンサートプロデューサー、飲食コンサルタント）はアメリカ西海岸を拠点に活動するクリエイティブチームです。本田は現代音楽や即興演奏を通じて国際的に活躍し、ソマッジはジャズフェスティバルのプロデュースで注目を集めています。二人は、音楽制作とコミュニティへの芸術提供という異なる活動を支え合いながら、日本での文化・自然体験をテーマに新たな創作を展開します。

暗闇のささやき：ヒキコモリと自然 

学際的なアーティストであるロヤ・ジバは、ファウンドオブジェクト、繊維、粘土、写真、パフォーマンスアートを取り入れたミクストメディアのインスタレーションを目指し、日本の滑川で大規模なリサーチと展示に取り組みます。また、このプロジェクトでは、池の環境から現地で録音されたフィールドレコーディングを使用したオリジナルのサウンドコンポジションを採用し、没入感のある多感な体験を作り出します。

最近の日本政府の調査で、150万人以上が家に閉じこもって生活していることが明らかになったことを受け、ジバはすぐにこれは自分ごとだと感じました。孤立者やヒキコモリと呼ばれるこれらの人々は、少なくとも6カ月間社会から隔絶しており、中には寝室から外に出ることがほとんどない人もいます。この現象は以前から注目されていましたが、昨年11月に政府の子ども家庭局が実施した調査で報告されたように、Covid-19の大流行によって悪化した課題は、懸念を強めています。彼女は、個人的な経験のストレスを通してヒキコモリに共感し、アートを通してこの複雑なテーマに光を当てようとしています。彼女の作品は、社会不安、うつ病、仕事のプレッシャー、いじめなど、ヒキコモリを誘発する要因を探ることを目的としています。 

日本語では、「ヒキ」は「内側に引き込む」、「コモリ」は「閉じ込められる」「隠れる」を意味し、「コウモリ」として知られる空飛ぶ哺乳類も連想させます。彼女の作品は、人生の難局を乗り切るための動物の回復力と適応力を描いています。特にコウモリは、ジバの作品において深い意味を持っています。現在、コウモリのシンボロジーに魅了されている彼女は、子どもの頃、傷ついたコウモリを助け、抱きかかえ、危険な道から導くためのコミュニケーションを学んだときの関係を鮮明に覚えています。

日本では、コウモリをはじめとする地元の生き物の生態学的研究に取り組み、滑川町の池の水系に重要な役割を果たしていることに焦点を当てます。また、日本の民間伝承に広く見られる超自然的な存在や霊の一種である妖怪など、日本の古代神話を探求します。自然、神話、個人的な経験を絡めることで、自分や他人の中にあるこの文化的現象を考察する作品を作ることを目指しています。ジバは、自然との深い関係や友情、自然がもたらす変容的な治癒力、静寂、避難所などを強調することで、観客にインスピレーションを与えたいと考えています。

+++ Whispers in the Dark: Hikikomori and Nature 

Interdisciplinary artist Roya Ziba will be working on extensive research and exhibition in Namegawa, Japan, aiming to create a mixed-media installation that incorporates found objects, fiber, clay, photography, and performance art. The project will also feature an original sonic composition using local field recordings from the pond environment, creating an immersive and multisensory experience.

Responding to a recent government survey in Japan that revealed over 1.5 million individuals leading reclusive lives confined to their homes, Ziba felt an immediate connection. Known as "hikikomori", loners or shut-ins, these individuals have been isolated for at least six months, with some rarely venturing beyond the boundaries of their bedrooms. It's a phenomenon that has gained attention over the years, but the challenges exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic have intensified concerns, as reported by the government's Children and Families Agency in a survey conducted last November. Through the stress of personal experience, she relates to the hikikomori and seeks to shed light on this complex subject through art. Her work aims to explore the factors that can trigger hikikomori, including social anxiety, depression, work pressure, and bullying.  

In Japanese, the word “hiki” means to pull inward while “komori” means “being confined” or “being hidden” and also carries a second meaning for the flying mammal known as the “bat”. Her work draws upon the resilience and adaptability of animals to navigate life's challenges. Bats, in particular, carry a profound significance in Ziba’s work. Now fascinated by their symbology, she vividly remembers the relationship she felt as a child, rescuing an injured bat, holding it and learning to communicate with them to guide them from harm's way. 

In Japan, she will delve into the ecological study of bats and other local creatures to focus on their vital contributions to the pond system in the village of Namegawa and explore the country's ancient mythologies, such as the Yokai, a class of supernatural entities and spirits prevalent in Japanese folklore. By intertwining nature, myth, and personal experiences, she aims to create art that examines this cultural phenomenon within herself and others. Ziba hopes to inspire audiences by highlighting the profound relationships and friendships we can forge with nature, as well as the transformative healing power, serenity, and refuge it offers.
