My name is Miyuki Kobayashi . I'm a Japanese performing artist who found out my grandfather has a pond that had inherited in Namegawa village of Hiki county, Japan.

I have been field working this region since 2016 and found out our ancestors trying to build ponds in the valley to cultivate rice and grow fish in there. They raised highly nutritious carp and other animals as a valuable source of nutrition.

I’m willing to share these old ponds and legacy of agriculture and art here with world. We are welcoming researchers, musicians or even chefs to work with us! This year them is “Biocultural Diversity “.

Here I’m introducing the selected artists of PONDALIZE Art Residency 2023.

We are happy to announce that we have awesome musicians and artists coming to stay at PONDALIZE Art Residency programs!

Here we introduce  artists and researchers to create some art works through our main theme; BioCultural diversity!

You may join our Art Study Groups, talk sessions or workshops. You can join our unique art community here in Japan. Loooking forward to seeing you in this beautiful nature diversity region     here in 比企丘陵county soon!

Embody the PONDs in somatics mode of biocultural diversity 

CreativePowerGarage101 is glad to organize and host an art residency program for performing artists. We welcome 2 more artists join to our 2nd year of the PONDALIZE project*. This project is located in a Japanese Agricultural Heritage-certified site; Hiki-pond in hills, JAPAN. 

This year, we offer a resident place and a solo or collaborative show/exhibition. We may allow you to collaborate with local musicians or artists who focus on the indigenous culture of this Hiki-region. The program supports you interact with the public.

▶︎Period to stay: 1 to 3 months maximum

▶︎Cost: free and artists will be provided a place to stay. 

If you have a family member or artistic partner or assistant such as a sound engineer or caregiver, etc.…let us know. We may provide a place to stay for one more person.

APPLICATION: email directly to creativepowergarge101@gmail.com with an intro letter with a face photo, CV, portfolio, and link to a webpage we may recognize your work at least for last 5years. We reply to you with the application form. 

▶︎ADMISSION: Basic knowledge of English spoken and written. Speaking two or more languages, Japanese and another language are most welcome! Nikkei日系Artists who is looking for a future destination of migration in the Japanese countryside or artists couple are also welcome. 

Willing to interact with the public, such as local artists, community facilitators, organic farmers, and researchers in agriculture or biocultural diversity field from local Universities or NPO. PONDALIZE 2023 residency is self-directive artists-in-residence program. We have been exploring a sustainable residency program without receiving any grants in order to experiment living labs system with an innovative and traditional mind behind it. 

The main community link coordinator supports you with matching with established researchers or artists working in roots music and dance, or environmental education who are registered to the PONDALIZE project interdisciplinary.
